Norwegian PENs prize for outstanding contribution to free expression, the Ossietzky-prize, awarded noted writer Ebba Haslund. 

The Writers in Prison Committee of International PEN is marking the 26th Writers in Prison Day 2006 (November 15) with a campaign in defence of nearly a hundred writers and journalists around the world who are in prison or facing custodial sentences for alleged defamation or "insult".

Norwegian organizations for journalists, publishers,  freedom of expression and human rights are shocked by the news of the murder of renowned writer and journalist Anna Politkovskaya in Moscow last Saturday.  The organizations strongly condemn the murder.

In a May 8. letter to Norwegian PEN, the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) fails to make up its mind with regards to Norwegian PENs application for immigration on behalf of Israeli writer and nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu.
